“In life, in general, it’s rare things go perfectly, or even how you would like them to. There’s something to be said for being the sort of person who adapts to and absorbs adversity shows up as planned, and does the best that’s possible on that day.”

About Laura
A long-distance runner and clinically trained Pilates teacher, Laura has been passionate about movement for over twenty years. Building on her desire to help guide movement in human bodies, Laura completed a science degree in psychology, to understand confronting the mindset hurdles that many people experience around exercise, movement and consistency. Applying these skills through her own experience as a runner and Pilates teacher, Laura teaches individuals how to show up for themselves and use Pilates as a way to strengthen themselves physically and mentally.
Now completing her Master’s of Physiotherapy, Laura is committed to ongoing education and evidence-based teaching, helping individuals remove the physical and mental hurdles that are in front of consistent movement that feels good. Movement Mode is her own studio, offering private and 2:1 Pilates sessions which are completely tailored to the individual on a weekly basis, targeting their goals, challenges and current physical and mental status.
About Movement Mode
A movement modality designed to facilitate enhanced awareness and connection to breath, Pilates is more than just exercise. Based on the principles of centring and control, Pilates seeks to strengthen from the inside out, targeting small muscles and their connections within the body as opposed to global muscle groups and their superficial connections on the outside of the body. Pilates uses specific movements and mind-body connection to take you inward, helping you unravel unproductive movement patterns and habits, while also bringing strength and resilience to facilitate functional movements.
Pilates isn’t the exercise you use to lose weight, or increase your heart-rate. Instead, it’s the one you do so that you can do everything else you want to, including cardiovascular exercises like running, or functional movements like squatting, lifting, and jumping. It’s the foundation that everything else can be built on.
There is no previous level of experience or fitness required, no minimum strength or function. Rather it is movement that meets you where you are and then lets you build up. Pilates is for every BODY, a type of exercise that when taught properly, removes barriers to movement instead of creating them. It allows you to be in (re)Movement Mode, returning to all the movements you want to do and the activities you love.
